Tips for Making Your Home Photo-Ready
Preparing your property for a photoshoot can significantly enhance the appeal of your home to potential buyers.
Here’s a simple guide to help you get started:
Prepare the Interior:
Brighten Up:
- Turn on all lights.
- Open curtains and blinds to let in natural light. Stylish blinds can be left down but opened.
Declutter Spaces:
- General: Remove visible trash and stray items. Use a cluttered closet or garage for temporary storage.
- Living Area: Remove extra items like blankets, dog beds, and magazines. Be mindful of family photos and artwork on display.
- Kitchen: Clear the refrigerator of photos and magnets. Keep counter items minimal – a fruit basket or a few utensils are fine.
- Dining Area: Optionally, set up a matching set of plates or a vase with fresh flowers.
- Bathrooms: Keep soap dispensers and towels; remove personal items. If your shower has appealing tiles, consider opening the curtain for the photo.
- Bedrooms: Clear desks, beds, and floors. Make sure beds are made and windows are clean.
Prepare the Exterior:
Front of the Home:
- Mow the lawn, hide hoses and bins.
- Remove “for sale” signs to comply with MLS rules.
Backyard:
- Maintain the lawn and bushes.
- Arrange outdoor furniture invitingly.
- Store old or dirty BBQ grills out of sight.
Some Extra Notes:
- Preparing well can significantly enhance photo quality and buyer interest.
- Properties are photographed “As Is”. Prioritize decluttering and front exterior presentation if short on time.
